The Feldenkrais Method® of Movement Education
What is Feldenkrais®? Most simply, Feldenkrais® is a way of returning to a time when we moved with ease. This technique, practiced worldwide, was developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais in the 1950's. The Feldenkrais® Method helps us reconnect with our natural abilities to move, think and feel. Whether we want to be more comfortable sitting at the computer, playing with children, or performing the activities of daily life or athletics, these gentle lessons can improve our overall well being.
What kind of training does Carol have? Carol is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionerCM. Becoming a GCFP requires four years (800 hours) of training and guided practice, followed by certification by the Feldenkrais Guild.® In addition, Carol has extensive training in anatomy and physiology, and has taught human physiology at Bastyr University.
What kinds of Feldenkrais® practices are available? There are two different kinds of Feldenkrais® lessons: (1) Awareness Through Movement® and (2) Functional Integration.® Carol offers both kinds of lessons at her Ballard Studio.
Awareness Through Movement® lessons combine movement, sensory attention, and imagery that can increase your awareness of how you move and perceive yourself. With increased awareness, you can feel better and move more freely. These verbally guided, relaxing lessons can be enjoyed by people of any fitness level and can be modified to accomodate individual needs. Classes include lessons in chairs, standing, and lying down. Awareness Through Movement® is offered in group or private sessions.
Functional Integration® lessons are hands-on guided movement lessons. These lessons create a kinesthetic conversation between the practitioner and client. Through gentle contact, the practitioner communicates to the client information about how s/he organizes his/her body. Invitations to move in more integrated and functional motor patterns are given during the lesson. Lessons are designed specific to each client's functional needs and unique circumstances. Functional Integration® is always offered in a private session.
Carol offers private hour-long sessions for $75 for class card holders, or $90 regular rate. Ninety minute private sessions - $110.
To schedule a session, please send Carol an email via the Contact Carol page.
